On Sunday night, Samuel Gough from England clashed with Jaipetch Sitjaopho in Max Muay Thai’s most anticipated rematch of 2019.
Gough and Jaipetch first met back in 2018, when Jaipetch picked up a first round TKO win over Gough by way of doctor's stoppage due to a cut.
Gough, who trains and fights out of Kiatphonthip Gym in Bangkok, came into the rematch a completely different fighter from their first meeting.
Gough used his long-arm defense and tight shell guard to defend most of Jaipetch’s elbows. Jaipetch, though, still controlled much of the first round and was able to cut the English fighter.
In the second round the tide started to turn, and feeling more confident about defending Jaipetch’s elbows, Gough became more offensive and began to wind the Thai with knees.
By the third round Jaipetch was no longer able to score with his elbows, and the way Gough was backing up Jaipetch with his knee attacks, he looked in control of the fight.
When the final bell rang the judges scored the fight a draw.
The question now is, has the draw set up a trilogy between Gough and Jaipetch?
