In 2017 Cambodian superstar Theun Theara catapulted his way to the top of Max Mauy Thai with a series of wins over some of Max’s toughest Thais: Yodbandit, Namkabuan, Deiselnoi—just to name a few.
But in early 2018 Theara suffered a devastating loss to Kitti ThaksinRayong by technical knock out in the second round.
It derailed Theara from his long-running win streak and the aura he’d been building around himself in Thailand.
Shortly thereafter, Theara returned to his home country of Cambodia, where he used his newfound fame to get into acting.
He continued to fight in Cambodia, further refining his skills and deadly elbows. But everyone in Thailand awaited his return.
His return came on Sunday, January 6th.
Theara, looking more in-shape and sharper than ever before, took on Seuafai Sor. Saksit in the 70 kilogram division.
The focused Cambodian controlled the fight most of the first round, when he pinned his opponent into the corner and began unleashing a series of elbows.
Saksit couldn’t withstand the damaging shots and went down, unable to make the count.
The question before this fight was will Theara return to the ring the way he left.
The question after this fight is who will they give Theara next.
