Petchpawarit Mitthaigym Steals the Spotlight at Max Muay Thai’s First Show of 2019
Max Muay Thai’s first show of 2019 started off as most of Max’s shows do: with knockouts, back-and-forth wars, and last-second reversals of fortune. On Tuesday night at the Max Muay Thai Stadium, fans packed in for 2019’s debut show, the Max Muay Thai Fighter event. The first two fights ended in the first round by way of technical knock out. But it wasn’t until the co-main event that fans got to witness Max Muay Thai’s trademark style: the unpredictable. The co-main event pitted Petchpawarit Mitthaigym against Teerapong Sitkhunja in the 46.5 kilogram division. The fight only lasted the better part of one round, but condensed into those two and half minutes was a stellar comeback from Petchpawarit. It was Teerapong who came out strong in the first round, landing knees to the midsection of Petchpawarit, who, for the most part, seemed disinterested in engaging with his opponent in the fight. But after two minutes of being folded over, bent sideways, thrown down, and mauled by Teerapong, Petchpawarit mustered up enough strength to land a knee of his own, which suddenly stopped Teerapong in his tracks. Then, from one side of the ring to the next, Petchpawarit began to drive more knees into the sides and middle of his opponent’s torso, until Teerapong, now folded over himself, dropped to the canvas where he lay in agony. It was an impressive comeback for Petchpawarit, especially after most of the people in the stadium had counted him out.
